The Iron Man Triathlon, as perhaps the toughest and most challenging endurance exercise events described in the world. It consists of 2.4 miles swimming, 112 miles from a bike and followed ending with a marathon 26.2 miles. Each individual faces extreme challenges in training and in the completion of this demanding and punishing experience. To become an official "Iron Man" and you will receive an official time, each participant crossed the finish line, maximum hours in 17th But whynobody would want to be an Iron Man?
A few days after completing my 2nd Subaru Iron Man Canada race on 24 August 2008, the answer suddenly came to me. Throughout the trip, I felt very connected to my fellow competitors 2300, and the absolutely magnificent 4500 volunteers. I feel so happy to be a member of the incredible Iron Man community.
In my very humble opinion, is the Iron Man all the experiences in my life condensed in a single day. It's my life in 12 to 15Hours. It's my life in a nutshell. On this day, I felt every single emotion possible, and I felt every emotion very intensely. , After he against a violent head wind on the bike I felt well beaten, dejected and beaten. For the 1st Time in my life, I immediately wanted to quit. After convincing me to keep one step at a time, something magical happened. I was eight miles into the run and I felt like a new man. I laughed, joked and glowing with hope and gratitude. When I thinkthis rate, I would be ready in no time. However, I found that very few people see the finish line slightly. My inner voice continually flattered only by the relentless pounding of the legs and the cramps in my intestines are drowned. I had some veterans Iron Man athletes, you really learn about themselves heard, on race day. Sometimes I felt quite calm and relaxed and at other times I hated myself, felt like a total loser and questioned my sanity. That day I learned thatThere is not a forgery. I had to go with the face. On this day, I really found out who I am and what important to me in life. At least my 2nd was Iron Man experience weird, surprising, exciting and rewarding. The Iron Man Triathlon is the best and worst of all, what ever happened to me.
Here are the 5 most important reasons are why I believe Iron Man, as my life in a "point."
1. All the unforgettable experiences of fear and excitement ahead.
I have noticed that themost memorable events in his life were marked simultaneously with enormous enthusiasm with tremendous fear. In many cases I have much to gain, but had a lot to lose. In 1987, I remember, I write off my board to the doctor of chiropractic. My classmates and I had studied and worked for many years to achieve our goal. I can recall in some detail, that morning I had the letter from the licensing authority. The tone of the letter is dropped into the mailbox was followed byThe big knot in my stomach as I opened the letter. This is the same feeling I had when I was standing in the water at the starting line of Iron Man I was so excited, but my stomach let me know that I am more than a little nervous. When I put on my face in cold water and began to swim easy, relaxed my breathing and I embraced at the beginning of my journey. 1. Among the few strokes of the Iron Man had to swim exactly the same as the letter with my board exam results more than 2decades ago. I did not know what would be the result, but I was determined to find out. The deja vu experience was very scary, exciting and sobering.
2. There are many ways to get over the finish line.
I have often seen recovering from a serious injury or life-threatening illness as much as the finish line of a race. As long as you keep towards the finish line, you are a winner.
As a health professional, I have the pleasure experiencedPatients, their health after taking significant back pain and disability. Every man is recovering in mind, body and spirit, but every single way is always a little different. If you are from a serious injury or a life-threatening disease, there are many ways health care. However, the strong proponents of each health profession would agree that it can not heal every single person. Therefore, it is matter of each individual to choose the method or methods thatwill work for them. Medicine, chiropractic, surgery, naturopathy, spiritual healing and a number of other options are available. I noticed that the progressive health professionals a multidisciplinary approach to promote healing. They realize that they are experts in their field, but they can also opt for alternative and complimentary treatment options. Doctor and patient must work together and do everything what it takes to recover. In other words, there are many maps for you to get yourTarget. It is simply a matter of finding out what works for you.
The same principles apply for Iron Man athletes embarking on a journey. If you really want to get the finish line, you will do whatever it takes to be successful.
If you are training for the Iron Man, you have many options. Who is your coach? How many times a week do you train? What kind of bike and running shoes will you use? What kind of wetsuit will work best? What kind of diet plan will you use?How will you balance hard training with your career and your family?
Just as many methods, permutations and combinations are involved in the cure, there are countless ways to prepare for reaching the finish line. In the final analysis it just does not matter! How long do you think are approaching the finish line, you're a winner.
3. Life is about overcoming Adversity
Life is about adapting and overcoming adversity. If you lived long enough on thisPlanet have you or your loved ones likely to overcome any type of disaster. Iron Man on the application form there is a very important issue for all athletes to answer. "What kind of challenges and overcome adversity, you have to be able to race in this event?"
In the pre-race dinner athletes, it was my privilege to sit with two remarkable athletes. Each of us had to overcome adversity in this race. The man sitting opposite me and I was successfully recovered fromAlcoholism in the past nine years. The woman was beside me, he spent three years recovering from a terrible accident bicycle. She recovered from two broken cervical vertebrae (neck) spine, a broken shoulder blade, a torn rotator cuff and severe knee ligament injury. Nevertheless, we were very humbled, overcome tremendous adversity to discover what the other incredible athletes. There were several athletes who were overweight and lost over 100 pounds. There was a man doing his 15th Iron Man hadsuccessfully recovered from an aortic aneurysm. There were numerous athletes race, the recovery from cancer. Finally, there was a man who would make history if he successfully crossed the finish line. He would be the 1 Person ever to complete an Iron Man triathlon after receiving a heart transplant.
Now I fully understand one of the signs I saw at the top of a nasty hill. He said: "Suck it up princess." My father was right. There is always someone worse off than you areSon. "
Life is about overcoming adversity.
4. Life is what is possible.
The ultimate hero for me and many of my fellow competitors is Sister Madonna Buder. Sister Madonna is a 78 years old Catholic nun from Spokane, Washington. She is in the triathlon world renowned for its achievements in the age group triathlon races. She began at the age of 49, when a priest encouraged her and her sisters to start running. He told them that they would harmonize their body, mind andSoul, and this sister Buder appealed. In 2006 she became the oldest person ever to complete the Iron Man triathlon in Hawaii. The loudest and longest round of applause this year's 2008 Awards Banquet was once again for Sister Madonna.
Not only the oldest sister Buder female finisher of the Ironman Canada is, she is the oldest ever to have completed it male or female. She also holds records in four age groups of Ironman races, no one has ever done in Ironman history. At the awards banquet a 'aSeveral years ago a sister Buder was five minutes long standing ovation. The long and loud applause, Sister Buder left speechless and overwhelmed, and her eyes filled with tears. The crowd demanded a speech and she told the audience: "I am humbled to show your enthusiasm, but I really do not see what the big deal!"
Your attitude of gratitude and spiritual energy is an inspiration to us all. She always has an optimistic attitude and claims that her success comes from religious "education." TheirAdvice for the two competitors were eighteen years old to take it 1 step by step. This race is, "what is possible." Sister Madonna certainly has thrown all the rules about restrictions out the window.
Never mind about limitations. Life is what is possible.
5. Love is the most important thing.
As I mentioned earlier, is full of the Iron Man Triathlon one days with all sorts of emotions. But at the end of the day, there is a sentiment that trumps all others. The feeling is love. It must be in all of our blood, sweat and tears. Life would be a hollow and sterile existence, if we do not love shares our happiness, sadness, joy and sadness. In the longest and darkest hours of my life, I had an extreme burning desire to be with my loved ones. In the happiest and most joyous occasions, I've always wanted to share with my family.
It is no surprise, when I had the support of my family and friends that day. I can alsoconfident that 2300 is not so my fellow competitors. During this year's Iron Man was, my family and friends with me in the spirit of the entire race. As I struggled the last summit, Yellow Lake, I was so desperate that I actually thought about quitting after I finished the bike. I was so sick and tired of hearing "on the left side, Larry," before it is passed by another bike yet. It was in these deep, dark moments, I heard the voice say from my father, "Come on, you can do it!" Dadalways there for me through good and bad times, and I felt him with me when I finally cleared the summit.
As I walk through one of the aid stations on Main Street, a beautiful female volunteers walked and talked with me as it to me some Gatorade. I immediately thought of my mother and knew that she was there with me, although she still believes that after 40 years that "sports are killing me."
I also felt the presence of my sister, who had during my training and anxietyPreparation, I wanted to have an accident on the bike. She said a special prayer for me, it at the Sunday service. Perhaps her prayer has helped the heroic volunteers identify and remove make 6 miles from where our mouth is, which one was on the bike route from some vicious and cowardly threw lame brained idiots.
Finally there was the heart warming feeling of love I felt for my friend Laurie. She would wait for me near the finish line. I wore them to observe, so that they will be with me for the entireRace. (The only problem was that the numbers on the watch were so small I could not really tell how fast I was.)
I survived the draining and lonely dark run along Main Street with my legs cramping and my gas tank in the vicinity of zero. I could hear the sounds and feel the excitement of the finish line. It was then that I saw Laurie in a bright orange jacket with about a mile to go in the race. We held hands for a split second, and my physical pain seemed to disappear. I have never felt soconnected and in love with Laurie, as I at this moment. I had passed through the lonely, dark and oppressive fear into a magical kingdom of love and light. Without doubt it was love that has preceded me in the deepest and darkest moments of that day.
Without a doubt, I can honestly and persistently, that the Iron Man Triathlon is my life in a nutshell. And on this incredible journey, I found my Holy Grail.
